If your family is looking for a thrill-seeking way to explore the outdoors, it’s time to check out some local mountain biking trails. Unlike typical cycling, mountain biking takes place on exciting off-road trails and dirt tracks equipped with wooden or natural obstacles. With the right introduction and safety equipment, even young kids can experience adventure on Central Florida’s mountain biking trails.

Pump some adventure into your routine on these local mountain biking paths that are fit for a family off-roading excursion:

Lake Druid Bike Park

📍 899 Coy Drive, Orlando
🕒 9 a.m.–30 minutes before sunset
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 All ages
🌟 Difficulty: Easy to Challenging

Located in the northeast corner of downtown Orlando, Lake Druid Park has a great bike park (also known as a pump track) that is great for introductory riders and enthusiasts alike. A pump track is a looped sequence of rollers and berms (swoopy, banked turns) wood platforms, a dirt track with jumps and natural obstacles. It’s designed to maximize your momentum, so you can ride it with minimal pedaling. The nearby single-track bike loop is 1 mile long and offers a mix of natural obstacles, wooden features and even an advanced section for more technical riders. The track can be completed in about 15 minutes and the advanced path ends with large wooden features with several drop-offs and a wall ride. This is a great little park that can keep you and your family busy for hours. Plus, you can’t beat the convenient paved parking and drinking fountains.

Markham Woods Trailhead & Mountain Biking Skills Park

📍 8515 Markham Rd., Lake Mary
🕒 7 a.m.–6 p.m.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 All ages
🌟 Difficulty: Easy to Intermediate

This multi-use trail system in Lake Mary is an expansive park with 11 miles of trails, including loops, straightaways and obstacles. They recently partnered with SORBA to build a Mountain Bike Park Skills Area. The new section is located where the Seminole Wekiva Trail (a paved pathway) meets the mountain biking trail, making it an exciting place to bring cyclists together. The Skills Area includes two banked berms, many natural obstacles, skinny platforms, several bridged obstacles and plenty of shaded coverage. Additionally, there are public restrooms, a bike-washing area and even a free tool station if you need to make some adjustments. It’s a great place to introduce a new rider to off-road biking or for the seasoned enthusiast to warm up before running one of the longer, more technical trails.

If you are up for it, you can also attempt the 10-mile River Trail Loop, which is an exciting excursion that can take 3 hours to complete.
