Seminole County Celebrates Park and Recreation Month
Visit three Seminole County Parks or Trails, take a photo, get a free poster!
To celebrate Park and Recreation Month throughout July, the Seminole County Leisure Services Department invites residents and visitors to visit three Seminole County parks and earn limited edition, vintage-inspired park posters. Upon taking photos at three different County parks, participants can earn a free poster featuring a signature Seminole County park. The posters are styled in the manner of the National Park travel posters produced by the WPA in the 1930s and ’40s. HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Visit three (3) Seminole County parks, trails, natural lands areas, or boat ramps and take a photo at each one. Present photos to staff at: Red Bug Lake Park, Casselberry, Sanlando Park, Altamonte Springs, Sylvan Lake Park, Sanford Museum of Seminole County History, Sanford. Choose a limited edition poster featuring Big Tree Park, Sylvan Lake Park, or the Flagler Trail.

Now in its 25th year, Red Hot & Boom returns to Cranes Roost Park on Sunday, July 3, 2022. The City of Altamonte Springs and XL106.7 partner to host one of the largest Independence Day celebrations in Florida with a full lineup of artists and fireworks. For the silver anniversary year, a 25-minute firework display will launch over Cranes Roost Lake highlighting the 25th annual celebration with popular and patriotic music as more than 13,000 bursts illuminate the night sky at 9:30 p.m., weather permitting, followed by the closing musical act. The event is rain or shine, admission is free and food and beverages are available for purchase. Original songs with guitar and harmonica. Sing-along tunes about dog kisses, the garbageman, girl pilots, and the 5-second rule, music for hip kids; dancing encouraged! Recommended for ages 0-8. This event occurs online through YouTube Live and Facebook Live. Please provide your email at registration to participate. A device with access to the internet and speakers or headsets are required. Howdy from Ranger Val! We are starting a new (and free) Junior Ranger Club that will meet once a month for 2 hours. The club meetings will start with a 15-30 minute Ranger Program about topics like prescribed fire, outdoor skills, wildlife, conservation, preservation or more. The rest of the meeting will focus on becoming great stewards of the land by cleaning up around the spring and parking areas. Email Ranger Val if your kid is interested in becoming an environmental leader in our community. 🌱

NASA just released the first images taken by the brand new Webb Telescope. Webb was designed to see farther into space than ever before, and it has the most cutting edge infrared technology available, allowing for the most detailed photos ever taken of the cosmos! Visit the science center to celebrate this momentous achievement for science and humanity and learn more about its implications. We’ll explore how technology helps us ponder our future by peering into the past and examining the history of our universe. Admission includes all the Webb presentations plus four floors of wonder and discovery with exhibits, films and live shows.

If you’ve ever wanted to come for a sound bath, shortened version, but could not find a sitter … we got you! Ages 5 and up are welcome. Bring a mat for everyone in your party and buy each participant a ticket. You can wear your most comfy clothes and enjoy sitting or laying while Shewon McGee, from Alternative Evolution, leads a 30 minute session of sound healing, chakra cleansing, calming our young minds and letting go of any tension. While we are trying to help our youngsters find stillness and calm, we understand there may be fidgeting, questions and hiccups. That is ok! In family classes, we are equal parts modeling calm and allowing for energy to rise up. During the sound bath, we will: chill out and reconnect to breathing, have the option to journal if you want, experience the gentle sound frequencies of crystal bowls.
