DIY Craft: Popsicle Puppets

Put your child’s imagination to work by helping them craft a one-of-a-kind popsicle puppet.

By Shannon Wolfgang

Create these popsicle puppets to add some cuteness to your pretend playtime this summer. You can make them look like fruit, rainbows or add embellishments with various pompoms and puffy paint. Have fun while crafting something together!

Supplies:

Popsicle sticks
• Paint in a rainbow of colors
• Googly eyes or sticker eyes (optional)
• Glue (we used a glue gun because we found this to be the easiest and fastest)
• Small and large pompoms
• Embellishments
• Puffy paint (optional)

Instructions:

STEP 1:
Begin by painting the popsicle sticks. You will need six popsicle sticks to create one unique popsicle.

STEP 2:
After your paint has dried, place the popsicle sticks side-by-side and glue them together. You will need five for the top of the popsicle. You will need one unpainted popsicle stick for the bottom to create the popsicle stick look of the actual popsicle. Make sure to give time to let your glue dry so the pieces will all stick together before gluing your base.

TIP:
A simple trick is to cut one popsicle stick in half and line it horizontally to the back so the five-colored sticks will have something to glue to and hang onto.

STEP 3:
Now it’s time to imagine how you want the world to see them. You can add googly eyes and facial features if you’d like. You could also paint toppings on top with puffy paint to give it a 3D texture or add embellishments like pompoms in various sizes.
