Attending Epcot’s International Food & Wine Festival with kids may not be your ideal situation, but it’s totally possible. In fact, it’s arguably the most kid-friendly year yet. No, you won’t be drinking around the world (well, maybe a little), but you can have some pretty unique festival-only experiences with your junior chefs being front-and-center.
The Candy Sushi making workshop was the highlight of our day at the Food & Wine Festival. This free kids’ workshop is held on Saturdays and Sundays inside The Land Pavilion, next to the Sunshine Seasons food court. There are two classes each day at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
It’s recommended to make a reservation here. We tried to make one on the way to the park, but of course, they were booked. However, there is a standby line for this experience. We arrived 30 minutes before the seating time, and we were second in the standby line. Only four people who had made reservations showed up, and everyone who was in the standby line got a seat. So, all is not lost if you don’t get a reservation at first.
Each seat includes a candy sushi making kit, a chef’s hat, three recipe cards and a bamboo sushi rolling mat. You can take everything home except for the rolling mat. There were three Disney chefs available during our workshop. Two were doing demonstrations while one was walking around helping each kid with their creation.
My daughter absolutely loved it, and there was plenty for us all to try a piece of her Taste the Rainbow Roll. It was cool that we got to bring home the recipe cards because we definitely plan to create these again at home!
